Chapter Six The (Almost) Perfect Night:
Amy motioned to go back up for air. I nodded and took one last look at the sharks and followed her up.
She smiled. "How was that?"
"It was amazing. I can't belive one of them actually swam right next to me. That was the most amazing experience of my entire life. Oh my gosh." I said.
"Well I gotta get you back to the hotel. I think I have a dress that you can wear. I can probably just put a flower in your hair." she mused to herself.
I stared confused. "What is Kevin planning?"
"I can't tell." she said. "Let's get going."
We swam back to shore and changed. She took me back to the hotel and got me dressed. She even put some make up on me. No matter how much I didn't like it, I looked beautiful afterward.
I smiled. "Thank you."
"No problem. Now Kevin's waiting downstairs. Go on." she said pushing me out the door. I ran down the stairs and ran smack into Kevin.
He laughed. "You must be really happy to see me."
I got up. "Sorry."
He smiled and grabbed my hand as he led us outside. The sun was starting to set.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"I found a way to tell you." he said opening a car door for me.
"What about the press?" I asked.
"Big Rob has a handle on them." he said pointing to the back where Big Rob was pushing press away.
I laughed and sat down in the seat as he got in on the other side. We drove to the same beach that I had been all day.
"Are you going to swim with sharks too?" I asked confused.
"Just wait." he said.
Suddenly we drove a little further and I saw a picnic blanket and a few candles.
"Kevin?" I asked in shock.
"Is it too much?" he asked worried.
"Is this what you've been doing all day?" I asked.
He laughed embarrased. "Yes. Charlene I really like you."
I smiled. "I like you too Kevin. Thank you."
"Charlene I think I more than like you. I think I might be in love with you. No matter how long I've known you, I really feel like I'm in love with you." he said.
I smiled a little bit.
"See I knew this would be a bad idea. Why did I even talk myself into this." he said when I said nothing.
"No Kevin. I love you too." I smiled kissing him softly.
As I pulled away he stared shocked.
"So are we going to eat or what?" I teased.
He smiled. "I don't know. I think I'd rather kiss again."
I rolled my eyes and got out. He followed and sat next to me on the picnic blanket.
"Kevin this is amazing." I murmured kissing him again.
He smiled. "Well you're definetely worth it."
I smiled and held his hand in mine as we watched the sun set behind the ocean. "Here, it's not much." he said handing me a sandwich.
"It's perfect." I said as he walked around lighting the candles. Then he sat next to me and ate his sandwich.
"You know what I finished?" he asked finishing his sandwich.
"What?" I asked.
"Your song." he smiled. "Want to hear it?"
"Duh." I said watching him reach around me to get his guitar. He started playing it quietly. The notes flowed together so well. He opened his mouth and beautiful lyrics came out. I'd never known such a beautiful voice. I felt tears well up in my eyes knowing he wrote this song about me. This perfect song was about me. He ended the song.
"What'd you think?" he asked staring at me.
"I-I loved it Kevin." I whispered.
He smiled. "I'm happy you did."
I kissed him softly. Everytime I kissed him it made me feel like we were the only two people in the world. It made me feel wanted.
He kissed me back and then I felt something cold down my back. I opened my eyes and saw Kevin running. "Jerk!" I laughed running after him.
I jumped on his back when I caught up to him. He fell down and flipped over so he was hovering over me. "Oh you're definetely going to pay for that."
I laughed as he slung me over his shoulder and walked toward the water. "You wouldn't. " I said.
Before I could struggle out of his arms I hit the water with a splash.
"I thought you loved the water." he laughed from the shore.
"Why don't you get threw in, against your own will." I smiled. "Now get in here."
"No I think I'm fine right where I am." he grinned.
"Well I'm staying in here. It feels good." I smiled.
He took off his shirt and got in too. "It does feel good."
I felt along his arm as he approached me. "Told you."
He smiled and pulled me against him.
"Kevin this night has been so amazing. Thank you." I murmured kissing his collarbone.
"Anything for you my princess." he said hugging me as he connected his lips to mine.
Suddenly there were flashing cameras and I heard Big Rob shouting. I pulled away from Kevin instantly and tried to hide my face.
Kevin grabbed my hand and ran back to shore Big Rob in front of us pushing the press away.
We got in a car and tears fell down my eyes as we sped away with Big Rob in the drivers seat.
Tom and Amanda knew where I was. Even if we try to run the papparazi would always be after Kevin trying to get the latest scoop.
"Charlene our deal. Don't think about them." he said.
"Kevin they know where we are." I said burying my face in his bare shoulder.
"We'll leave as soon as possible." he said.
"Kevin they'll find us again. The press will-" I said into his shoulder at the end I burst into tears. If they found me they'd kill Kevin too.
Kevin stroked my hair. "Don't worry Charlie. I'll keep you safe. I promise. Shhh."
I heard no confidence in his voice and the sobs came again.
"Big Rob what do we do?" Kevin said.
"I have an idea, but I don't know if it'll work." he said.
"We're willing to try anything." Kevin whispered.
"There's a town not too far from here. It's a small town. I inherited a house not too far from there. Would you guys be willing to stay there. I don't think there should be any press there." he said.
Kevin nodded. "Thanks Big Rob."
"No problem Kevin. Is she okay?" he asked.
"She'll be fine." Kevin said kissing my hair.
I lifted my head and stared at Kevin.
He wiped the tears from my cheek. "I'll make things better I promise."
I smiled a little bit. "I know you will."
He kissed my lips softly. "Go to sleep sweetheart."
I nodded and made myself comfratable on his shoulder.
Chapter Seven Maybe Baby:
I woke up across Kevin's chest. He was still sleeping so I gently got up off his chest. I was in an unfamiliar house, but I heard voices outside the door. I followed them and peeked out the door.
I saw Nick and Joe. Nick glared at me as soon as he saw me. Joe looked the same. I scaredly went back into the room with Kevin. I stepped back and ran into Kevin.
"Are my brothers here?" he asked.
I nodded. "Should I stay in here?"
"No, you're my girlfriend. You're allowed to be with me whether they like it or not." he glared walking out the door grabbing my hand.
"Kevin what were you thinking?" I saw Nick glare from me to him.
"I was thinking that maybe I like Charlene." Kevin glared.
"She's a fake Kevin. She needs to go back home. Where she belongs." Joe said. "Or is it on the corners that she belongs?"
Kevin let go of my hand. "Joe shut up. You don't know anything about her."
"I know enough to know that she doesn't belong in our life. She's a liar Kevin." Joe said. Kevin glared and was about to punch Joe.
"Alright you three stop now. I want to hear Charlene's side to this before we make judgements." I suddenly saw Mrs. Jonas.
I looked down.
"I'm sorry for acting so rudely before. I did't realize how happy you made my Kevin. Would you mind talking to me?" she smiled warmly.
I nodded. "I promise. I'm going to tell you the complete truth. I'm really not who you guys think I am."
She nodded. "I understand. So you live with your Uncle?"
"Yes. My mom died when I was 7, Also my baby brother." I said.
"Did they get sick?" she asked.
"No. My Uncle murdered them both." I said.
"Why?" she asked shocked.
I tried to keep myself together. "My mom told my dad what he was doing. He used to abuse her and he killed her parents. He also had a drug business. Tom killed my baby brother by throwing him against a table. He hired someone named Nathen to kill my mom."
Suddenly everyone was listening. Kevin sat next to me and grabbed my hand.
"What kind of person does that? What did they do to you?" Joe asked looking at me sympathetically.
"They abused me. Pulled me out of school in like the second grade so I never finished. Then he sent me to the man that killed my mom. He raped me that night. Your sons were my only happiness." I said breaking down in tears.
Mrs. Jonas stared at me then hugged me with tears in her eyes.
"You guys aren't seriously believing this are you? It's a load of crap." Nick said glaring at me.
"Nicholas. Don't be so rude. I think she's telling the truth." his mom said.
"But Mom-" Nick started.
"Nick. Listen to me. She's part of our family now. You're going to treat her like it. Now apologize." Mrs. Jonas glared at him.
"She will never be considered my family. I'm outta here." Nick glared leaving slamming the door on the way out.
I wiped my tears with the back of my arm. "I'm sorry I'm causing your family so much trouble." I whispered.
"It's no trouble at all sweetie. Don't mind Nick. I'll talk to him later." she said.
"Thank you Mrs. Jonas." I said hugging her again.
"Thank you for making Kevin so happy. As a mom that means the world to me. And I'm really sorry about before. I just didn't understand." she said looking at Joe waiting.
"I'm sorry too Charlene. I'm really happy that my brothers and I could help you so much. We friends?" he asked opening his arms for a hug.
I smiled and hugged him.
"I think it'd be best if you and Charlene stayed here for a while. Your dad tells me that the press are staking our house. You guys need to stay out of Charlene's uncle's eye right?" Mrs. Jonas asked looking at me.
Kevin answered. "Yes. As much as possible. If they find her I don't know what will happen."
"Will you be in danger too Kevin?" she asked cautiously.
"I'm not sure. I think I will, but I'll be fine Mom." he said.
She nodded. "Now you treat this girl right Kevin."
Kevin smiled. "Always do."
"Keep in touch please." she said kissing both mine and Kevin's cheek leaving.
Joe bear hugged me and gave Kevin a high five as he left.
"Told you it'd blow over." Kevin smiled kissing me gently.
"Yeah but what about Nick?" I asked.
"Don't worry about him. His opinon of you doesn't matter sweetie. He'll get over himself eventually." he whispered.
"Kay." I muttered.
He smiled. "I love you Charlie."
"I love you too Kevin." I murmured sitting on the couch.
"Are you hungry?" he asked.
"Nah. I'm good." I said as Kevin turned on the T.V.
Kevin and I were on the screen. Kevin sighed and was about to change it.
"Wait I want to see what they say." I said stopping him turning up.
"...As soon as press arrived Kevin ran off with his new girlfriend in hand. Why is this girl such a secret? Find out in an hour when Nick Jonas himself joins us." the reporter said.
I stared shocked. "Is-is he going to tell everyone? Kevin he can't!"
"I'll be back Charlene I'm going to go talk sense into him." Kevin said running out the door.
I sighed and changed the channel. I turned it on some stupid sitcom and layed across the couch silently.
The door opened. "Hey Kevin what are you doing back so soon?"
"Don't run please." I heard a way too familar voice.
I jumped off the couch and faced Nathen.
"Shhhh. Please. Trust me. You want to hear what I have to say." he whispered. "I'm about to be nice."
"Why should I trust you? What good have you ever done for me?" I glared.
"I'm hoping this will make you forgive me. You deserve a guy like Kevin. Tom forced me to do all that stuff. I don't know if you know this, but he's my dad." Nathen said.
Suddenly I looked at him and saw a man in obvious pain.
"Go on." I said.
"I'm sorry for everything, but listen to me. Tom's on his way to that studio to kill Nick." he whispered.
"He won't make it in time." I said.
"You don't see the point. The next Jonas Brother he see's he's going to kill. He's trying to get you out of hiding." he murmured.
"How'd you find me?" I asked.
"I've been following you and keeping in touch with Tom at the same time. He thinks I'm somewhere on a boat in the pacific ocean. He's here in the Bahamas." he murmured.
"No. No. Nathen, he can't kill them." I said.
"I'll give you a ride down there." he said.
"Wait Nate that will just get you in trouble." I said.
"I kinda deserve to be in trouble. Now just come on." he whispered grabbing my arm as we ran out to a car.
We sped to the T.V studio. I instantly saw Tom. He was about to slip inside.
"You stay here Nate." I said getting out. "Hey Tom!" I called.
He flipped around with a grin on his face. "Saving your boyfriend huh?"
"Yeah I am. Leave them out of this Tom. It's between you and I. They don't have anything to do with it." I glared.
"Well apparently they know something little lady." he glared. "You want them to live?"
I nodded. "What do you want?"
"You to come with me." he glared.
"Fine. Just leave them alone Tom." I said.
"Get in the car." he said pushing me into a car.
I cooperated not wanting Kevin to come out.
He locked the doors as he sped away.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked.
"Wherever the hell I want to take you." he said.
I stared out the window and saw Nathen get out of the car and run to Kevin who'd just stepped out.
I hoped that Kevin would stay. Just this once. His life depended on it.
Tom drove to a sea cave area.
He forced me into one. "Now you're going to stay here. I'll see you next time." he grinned pushing a rock in front of the entrance leaving me tied up. I had no way out.
I'd seen every movie known to man. I knew what was going to happen. Kevin was going to come and save me. He knew exactly where I was, but Tom wasn't going to stop until I was dead.
He was playing games. He knew Kevin would come and save me. He was making my death like a game.
A game he had the upperhand on. I sighed as the rock moved out of the way.
Kevin stared at me in relief. "Thank god."
I didn't say anything as he picked me up. "Charlene are you okay?"
"Not yet. Kevin he's playing games with our mind. He knew you'd come save me." I said afraid.
"What'd he say before he put you in here?" Nate asked.
"I'll see you next time." I repeated what Tom had said.
Kevin held me to him. "I won't let him get you again."
"Kevin he was going to kill Nick. He's trying to get me out of hiding he will hurt your family or even you. This is all my fault. I'm so sorry." I said.
"No it's not your fault Charlene. He won't get you or my brothers." Kevin said in denial.
"Kevin listen to her. You don't Tom like she does. I know him even more and I know he will. He's going to do everything to hurt Charlene before he finally kills her." Nate said.
"What can we do really?" he asked.
"There's not really anything. If you guys weren't celeberties it'd make it so much easier." Nate said.
"I have an idea." I said.
Kevin looked at me.
"If you and your brothers stay out of the public eye for a while, then Tom won't find us untill we're ready for him to find us. We can use the press to our advantage." I said.
"Why would we come back out? He'd kill you then." Kevin said confused.
"Untill I'm ready to fight him." I said.
"Absoulutely no way. I'm not letting you fight him. You'll get killed." he said instantly.
"Kevin she's alot better fighter than you think. Trust me she's taken quite a few people before. She has this strategic way of taking care of people. She's pretty smart for only a second grade education." Nate argued.
"She'll get hurt." Kevin muttered holding me closer. "Plus since when are you trying to help?"
"I'm making up for what I did in the past. Come on give her a shot." he murmured.
"I don't trust you." Kevin muttered.
"Kevin I do. He wouldn't fake." I said.
"Where do you think we go?" Kevin asked in defeat.
"Charlene's dad's house." Nathen said.
"M-My dad's house?" I asked shocked.
"Yes he's a vetrenarian in a small town in Utah. Tom won't find us there." Nathen promised.
"Thank you Nathen. This is really nice of you." I said.
"I think it's time my dad got taken care of." Nate said.
I smiled a bit. "Do you think my dad will want me?"
"He's always wanted you, but Tom threatned to kill him and his family if they tried to get you or told on him." Nate said.
I smiled. "Let's go see my dad."
Suddenly Joe came running up. "Kevin. Tom got Alexis."
Chapter Eight Time To Prepare:
We got to the hospital within minutes. Nick was sitting in the lobby area with his face in his hands. When he saw me he stood up in anger. "This is all your fault! Alexis is dead because of you. You've tooken this way too far." Nick yelled.
Kevin pushed him back. "Nick shut up. She just got done saving your life. Maybe she shouldn't have."
"Kevin, Joe, Mom when are you guys going to see how much of a trick this is. It has to be a trick." Nick said sitting down putting his face in his hands.
I kneeled down next to him. "Look I know what it's like to lose someone I cared about. Trust me, I'm going to get revenge. I promise you Nick."
To my surprise he hugged me. "I believe you now. You need to kill him. Alexis can't die for no reason."
"She won't I promise. I will get rid of him. I just need a little time to prepare. We can't just go at him head on. We need to come up with a plan. A smart plan. Tom's a lot smarter than you guys think." I said pulling away from his hug.
"Thank you. And I'm sorry for everything I said." Nick said as I sat next to him.
"I understand. Now you guys we need to go now. Before Tom get's anyone else." I said.
Joe grabbed Nick's arm and we all ran out to cars to get to the airport.
We got to my dad's house 7 hours later. On the way we picked up Mr. Jonas and Frankie. I hoped he wouldn't kick us straight out. We went up to the door.
A woman I didn't know answered the door. She stared shocked at Joe, Nick, and Kevin. "Ummm. Can I help you?"
"Yes we're looking for Charles." Mr. Jonas said.
"Where's your animal?" A small girl asked.
The woman laughed. "Savannah go on and play. Why don't you come on in."
Mr. Jonas nodded and we all came inside.
The woman smiled. "I'm Charles's wife Sandy. May I ask what you need him for?"
"We'd like to speak to you and your husband together. Would you mind bringing him in. It's urgent." Mrs. Jonas murmured.
"Of course." Sandy smiled running out back.
Nervous butterflies came to my stomach. I was about to see my dad after all these years.
A man came inside. His face brought back memories of childhood. I nervously stood up.
He stared at me in shock. He looked happy. Then fear flooded his face. "I'm sorry we can't help you. You guys need to go."
"Wait sir. Please listen to us." Kevin stood up begging.
"You don't know how much danger you've put my family in bringing her here. Leave now before he finds us." my dad glared.
"Mr. Miller this is your daughter. You are aware of that?" Mr. Jonas questioned.
"I am aware, but I have a family to look out for. He's going to kill me and my family. You people shouldn't have gotten involved either." my dad said.
Tears flooded to my eyes. "Guys he's not going to help. Let's just go find somewhere else. He obviously doesn't care."
Kevin hugged me to him.
"Sir, this girl is part of your family. You don't understand what she's been through. Please listen to her." Mr. Jonas begged once more.
"I'm sorry. I would really love to help, but I've started over" My dad said.
More tears filled my eyes as I went outside.
Kevin followed me. "Charlene just tell him everything. I think when he realizes what his daughter's been through his fatherly instinct will kick in."
"Kevin this is hopeless. He's not going to listen." I sobbed.
He hugged me to his chest and kissed my forehead. "Try."
I sighed. "Fine. It's going to be completely hopeless though."
"Try." he said again.
I went back inside and saw Mr. and Mrs. Jonas still pleading with my dad.
"Dad, I know you don't care, but I think you should know exactly what I've been through." I spoke up.
He looked at me.
"Tom killed Andy right in front of my eyes. He threw him against a table. He hired someone to kill Mom. Then when that man got out of prison. He took me and raped me. If I didn't listen to Tom he'd beat me. I still have scars from places that hurt me. I haven't been to school since the second grade. Then last week, Kevin Jonas of all people came and saved me from it. He obviously had more guts than my own father did. Then when we come ask my father for help of course he won't help because he's a spineless jerk. My own father. I'm out of here. You have a nice life with your new family. They're obviously more important." I said tears coming to my eyes as I went back outside.
Everyone followed after.
"Wait. We'll help." I heard Sandy say.
Kevin smiled. "I told you so."
"No we are not Sandy. She's going to kill us all." my dad yelled.
"You have no say in the matter. If you don't want her here, there's the front door." she said helping us carry bags in.
My dad angrily went upstairs.
"Thank you for that." I said to Sandy.
"I'm sorry for his attitude. I wouldn't blame him though. When I first met him he was a total mess. He said he'd lost his daughter, wife, and son in a car accident. I can understand why he didn't tell me the truth. Is that Tom guy still after you?" she asked.
I nodded. "He won't find us here though. He doesn't think I'll go searching after my dad. He doesn't know that he's with us. That's Nathen the guy that killed my mom. He's nice now though. Don't worry."
"It's nice to meet you guys. When I saw the Jonas Brothers at the door I thought we'd won something." Sandy smiled sheepishly.
Everyone laughed quietly. Kevin came and grabbed my hand.
"So are you two together?" she asked looking at my and Kevin's intertwined hands.
Kevin smiled. "Yes. We are."
I blushed and tightened my grip on his hand.
"I wouldn't worry too much about your dad. I think he's in shock more than anything. He did and still does love you. I'm sure." she said.
I smiled. "Thank you Sandy, so is that little girl my sister?"
"Yes she is. Would you like to go talk to her? While I set up some rooms." she asked.
I nodded. "That'd be nice. Thank you."
Mrs. Jonas went and helped Sandy.
I kneeled down next to the little girl playing with her toys. "Hi. I'm Charlene you're big sister."
"Why doesn't Daddy like you?" she asked in a little kid voice.
"I don't know what's your name?" I asked.
"Savannah. I'm four and two quarters. Is that Jonas?" she asked.
I laughed. "Yes it is. Have you seen their T.V show?" I asked.
"Ywes. I watch it every day!" she smiled.
I smiled. "Who's your favirote?"
"JOE!" she said.
Joe smiled as the little girl jumped into his arms. I guessed they'd be busy fro a while so I walked outside.
Kevin wrapped his arm around my waist. "Where do you think you're going?"
"To walk around." I shrugged.
"Sweetie are you okay?" he asked. "We're safe for now."
"My dad's right. I'm putting that little girl and her mom in danger." I muttered.
"They didn't have to let us stay. She chose to." Kevin assured me.
"But what if I get them all killed? That's 4 people I'd have let die. That's 4 too many. Then if you and your brothers-"
He broke me off with a kiss.
I melted into his arms as the feeling came again.
"Better?" he asked.
I nodded. "I love you Kevin."
"I love you too baby. Let's go inside. I think your dad came downstairs." he whispered.
"I need a little time to think about what to say to him. I'll meet you inside." I said.
He looked uneasy.
"Go Kevin I'll be fine." I promised.
He nodded and went inside.
I walked around the house and saw a horse. I gently approached it and stroked it's nose.
Someone was behind me suddenly. "That's Ocean Breeze. She's Vannah's."
I turned around and saw my dad.
I turned back around and kept petting the horse ignoring him.
"Look you probably hate me. Would you listen to me?" he asked.
I nodded not looking at him.
"I did love you, your brother, and your mom. It's just after she told me what Tom did. I-I didn't know what to do so I ran away. I didn't want to get involved in something like that. I was selfish. I was a mess for as long as I can remember. Then Sandy came into my life. She made things better. Then that Nathen guy downstairs came and told me that I couldn't see you or your brother ever again or tell what I knew about Tom. They said they'd come kill me and my wife. He told me that you were with him safe and sound. So I assumed...." he trailed off a few tears coming down his cheeks.
"I know what you mean about the person that makes everything better. I feel that way about Kevin. Everytime I kiss him I-I feel like everyone else is gone. All the problems just go away." I murmured.
"See that's what I mean. Sandy did that for me. Now I'm semi normal. I stil think about you and your brother everyday though. Hearing that really opened my eyes. Now if you're willing I'd like another chance. I want to at least have my relationship with you rekindled." he said.
"I guess you can have another chance." I said with a small smile.
"So how long have you and that Kevin guy been dating?" he asked.
"Since last night." I laughed.
He stared confused. "You guys seem so much more serious than that."
"We just really like eachother." I said. "We've been through kinda a lot together."
"So I see." he murmured.
"You like animals?" I asked curiously changing the subject.
"Yes. I love animals." he said.
"I guess it's in my blood then. I want to be a marine biologist." I laughed still not looking at him.
"That's funny." he laughed.
"Dad, what was life like before? I can't really remember." I said petting the horse.
"Maybe if you look at me. I can tell you." he said.
I looked at him and he smiled. "There we go. I want to see my long lost daughters face."
I smiled a little bit. "So what was it like?"
"Things were great. We were just an average family. Then things changed when your mom told me. I packed up and left. I remember I used to tuck you into bed every night and read you a story. Your favirote was always this one about a great white shark. Guess that's where you got your interest." he said ending in a small smile.
"Hey guys it's time for dinner." I heard Kevin call.
I smiled at him. "Be there in a minute."
He nodded and went back inside.
My dad led the way inside.
We all sat at a big table as Sandy served out plates.
I sat next to Kevin and she put his hand on my knee. I smiled and intertwined my hand with his.
"Thank you Sandy this looks delicous." Mrs. Jonas smiled.
"Yeah. Is Nick going to eat?" she asked staring at Nick who I noticed was sitting in a corner.
I walked over to Nick. He looked at me softly through eyes with a look I recognized all too well.
This was a look I'd worn fora long time. When I wasn't allowed to cry. "Nick do you want to talk?" I asked.
He nodded and followed me out onto the porch. He sat in the swing hanging there.
I sat next to him. "Nick I know what you're going through right now. You miss Alexis don't you?" I whispered.
He nodded. "I loved her to death, and now she's gone. I-I don't know what to do." he said looking at his hands.
"Well the first thing you can do is let yourself cry Nick. I promise it will feel good. You can cry in front of me. I won't tell anyone." I promised.
A few tears escaped his eyes. "I-I just can't believe she's gone. She was everything in the world to me. She was only 15. Why did it have to be her?"
He was full out crying. I hugged him. "Nick I know what it feels like. I've lost both my brother and my mom. I never had anyone there to talk to me. I want to be different for you. I'm here if you need someone to talk to."
"I remember how it happened. She was just getting out of the car when she fell to the ground. That image is going through my mind nonstop. Charlene how do you deal with it?" he asked.
"I don't really remember how I did. I just tried to think of the good times. The times that I wanted to remember and it just kind of went away eventually. Not completely of course, but mostly." I said. "Tell me about how you guys met."
He smiled a little wiping his tears. "It's kind of a funny story."
"How so?" I asked.
"Well she was walking around at walmart when she ran straight into me, knocking us both over. She was so embarassed, then she realized who I was and she started hyperventellating and couldn't speak. She looked so adorable and I guess I just fell in love with her right then and there. After she got past saying her name. We started talking. By the end of that night she was my girlfriend. She was just go perfect." he smiled.
"That's so cute." I said.
"Do you think she's watching us right now?" he asked.
"Yes. I really think she is." I said.
He stared up at the sky and whispered something then looked at me. "Thank you for talking to me Charlene. And I'm sorry for all that I said."
"Anytime Nick. You ready to go eat?" I asked.
He nodded and followed me inside. Kevin was waiting at the table while everyone else was watching T.V in the big livingroom.
He smiled at me and pulled the chair out for me. I sat down and intertwined one of my hands with his as I ate with the other.
Nick ate quickly and decided to go to bed. Kevin, Joe, Nick, and Nathen all shared a room. I was sleeping in a room with Savannah. Papa Jonas and Mama Jonas both slept on the couch downstairs.
As I went upstairs to shower Kevin stoppped me. "Charlene can I talk to you really quick?" he asked.
"Of course." I said following him into the room that I was staying in. He sat down on the bed and sat me next to him.
"Charlene, thank you for helping Nick." he said.
"It's no problem. I know how he feels." I said.
"You're a really nice girl." he said kissing me softly.
I smiled and kissed him back softly.
"Is it wrong for me to be worried about you getting hurt when you fight Tom?" he asked.
"Kevin I can handle it." I laughed kissing him again.
"Charlene are you sure? I can help you." he said.
"I know that you can Kevin, but then you're going to get hurt." I said looking into his eyes.
He frowned. "Then will you get hurt?"
"I'm not going to lie to you. It's possible that I will, but if I come up with a good enough plan. I should be fine." I promised.
"Do you have a plan already?" he asked.
"Kind of." I admitted.
"Tell me." he said.
"I'm thinking that I can go with him for like a week, he won't kill me instantly. He'll do a few things first. That's just how he works. And then I kill him then." I said.
"Not gonna happen." he glared.
"Kevin, it's just an idea, but if that's the only solution I can up with well then you'll have to deal with it." I said.
"I'm not letting you get hurt by him ever again. I'm not going to let that plan happen." he said.
"Look I'm going to go take a shower. You should go to bed. Night Kevin." I glared grabbing my clothes and going to the shower.
Chapter Nine Why Can't You Just Agree?:
The next day me and Kevin hadn't talked since last night.
I wasn't going to budge though. How could he not want me to do this? I was trying to help, but he refused to listen. Nathen thought it was a really good idea. He offered to help out with it. Tom didn't know he was on our side now. I could make this work to our advantage.
Nathen could turn me into Tom. He could tell Tom to torture me before he killed me. He could get me out of there if something went wrong. Kevin seemed to like this idea better, but not much better than the other.
We eventually got him to relacantly agree. Then we called for a meeting in the livingroom and explained the plan to them.
"Are you going to get hurt?" my dad asked a little cautious.
"It's possible, but if something goes too wrong then Nathen can get me out of there." I said.
Nick nodded. "I think it's a really good idea, I mean Tom won't be expecting it. He still thinks Nathen is on his side."
Kevin shot a small glare at him, but then looked back at me.
"I think it's a good idea too. Think about it. We have Nathen on our side, it's fool proof." Joe chipped in.
"I think we should take a vote. It's better to have everyones input in this." I asked.
Everyone nodded. "In favor of this plan." I said.
Nick, Joe, Sandy, Mrs. Jonas, and Papa Jonas raised their hand.
I looked at the two who didn't raise their hand. My dad and Kevin.
"Dad, Kevin I can do this." I said.
"Charlie what if you get hurt. I-I can't let that happen. Charlene please. I just have this feeling that it will fall through." Kevin said holding my hand.
"I agree with Kevin. What if you get hurt? I mean, I don't want that to happen." my dad frowned.
"Dad, Kevin I will get hurt. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not going to, but I can handle it. Promise. I can take anything Tom deals out." I said.
"Kevin, I can even teach her to fight. I mean she knows some, but I'll teach her more so she's even more safe." Joe said.
"I'm not going to agree to this Charlene. I'm sorry. You're going to get hurt. I can't let it happen." Kevin said walking away.
I sighed and looked at my dad. "I'm not too fond of this idea either, but I hear confidence in your voice. I think you can do this."
"Thank you Dad. Joe start teaching me to fight now. I want to get this over and done with as soon as possible." I said going out back.
Joe nodded and followed me. "So first of all don't go for the obvious hit. Keep on your toes, now hit me I want to see how strong you are."
I squared off with him and went quickly for his leg sweeping it out from under him.
"Good." he said dusting himself off. "Now I'm going to try and hit you. Block me in anyway that you can."
I nodded as he pulled his fist back and prepared to block him. "Joe stop. I don't want you teaching her to fight. She's not going to fight Tom." Kevin said standing between us.
"Kevin I have to." I said. "We won't be safe untill Tom's dead. Now move Kevin."
"Joe don't teach her anymore. Please." Kevin begged.
"Then I'll teach myself Kevin. You're not going to stop me from getting rid of Tom. He's putting you and your whole family in danger. I want my revenge." I said.
"Charlene don't do this please. If I lose you I don't know what I'm going to do." he said.
I stared at him. His eyes were away from mine. "Kevin look at me." I said.
He looked down at me. His eyes were pain. "Kevin I have to. I promise you won't lose me."
"Charlene, you can't make that promise yet. You don't know what's going to happen with Tom. It could turn completely wrong and Nathen might not be able to help." Kevin worried.
I kissed him. "Let's make a deal."
He smiled a little bit. "What kind of deal?"
"If you don't take yourself from my life, then I won't take myself from yours." I smiled.
"Deal." he said kissing me.
I kissed him back then Joe cleared his throat. "Can we get back to teaching?" he asked.
"Sorry." I laughed.
He pulled his fist back and aimed for my face, I knew this move too well. He was aiming for my face, but he's go for my stomach.
I made to block my face and caught his hand just as he was about to punch my stomach.
"Nice job!" he said in shock.
"Hit me again." I said.
He went for my arm this time, but I threw him off.
For the next hour, I learned to fight. I learned a few moves that I didn't know, but I surprised Joe with how much I already knew
"How did you get so good?" he asked as we went inside.
"I didn't always take Tom's abuse. I fought back sometimes." I said.
"So how long do you think it'll be until you go?" Nick asked.
"Early Monday morning." I said.
"That's only three days. Are you sure?" Kevin asked.
"One hundred percent. I just want to get this over with. Just kill him and be done with it." I said.
"Why don't we go earlier. Like tomorrow morning?" Nathen asked.
"I'm not sure. Maybe I could use a few more hours of training." I said.
"Come on, you're good enough to beat Tom. I really think we should go." Nathan said.
"Alright. Tomorrow morning." I said.
Kevin looked cautious. "Are you sure? I mean I think you could use a few more hours of training too."
"I don't think she does." Joe said. "She could've beat me up and that's pretty hard to do."
Kevin rolled his eyes. "Alright, just remember our deal."
I nodded. "I will. I love you Kevin."
He smiled and hugged me. "Go get some sleep, Nathan call Tom and see where he is, tell him you've found Charlene and that you'll bring her tomorrow."
I smiled as everyone, but Kevin and Nathan went upstairs. I assumed they wanted to discuss tomorrow.
I layed down in bed and instantly fell asleep.
"Charlene wake up. It's important." Kevin said shaking me urgently.
"Huh?" I asked blinking sleep away.
He looked distressed. "Charlene Nathan's still on Tom's side."
"Kevin if this is your last attempt to get me to stay, that's sad. Nathan is on our side." I glared.
"Charlene I heard him on the phone with Tom. You can't go. It's a trap." he said.
"Kevin seriously? Go back to bed. Nathan's not some spy. He's helped us all this way. Now go." I said turning back over into sleep.
When I woke up Kevin was still trying to convince everyone, but they'd seen how nice of a guy Nathan was and they just laughed and said he must've had some crazy dream.
"Ready to go?" Nathan asked pulling up with a car.
"Let's do this." I said getting in.
"Charlene no. Trust me Charlene you can't go. You're going to break our deal." Kevin yelled coming out of the house.
"Kevin, it was a dream. Why can't you just see that. I'll call you as soon as Tom's gone, then you can meet us at the airport." I promised as we drove away.
He stared on the porch shocked as I faced Nathan. "I don't know what's gotten into him. Where exactly is Tom?" I asked.
"He's not too far from here. He's at some abandonded lake house." Nathan said.
"Really? He's been here the whole time?" I asked.
"Yeah he has some family up here or something." Nate said facing the road.
I nodded as we drove quickly.
We arrived in about an hour. Tom approached Nate. "Nice job son." he beamed.
"Yes father. She fell for it way too easily." Nate said grabbing my arms roughly.
My instincts kicked in and I threw them off, but he pinned me to the ground. "You've forgotten that I know all your moves Charlie."
My instincts kicked in and I threw them off, but he pinned me to the ground. "You've forgotten that I know all your moves Charlie."
I spit in his face.
He slapped me hard across the face. "Nathan take her inside untill I decide what to do with her."
"Can I do whatever I want with her?" he asked grinning evily at me.
"Whatever you'd like son. You've earned it." Tom said as Nathan dragged me inside.
He pushed me up against the wall and pressed himself to me. "You know Tom's going to throw you at the bottom of that lake"
I tried to push him off, but he connected his lips to mine hungrily.
I kicked him hard in the groin. He fell to the ground in pain as I ran to the door. It flung open and Tom walked inside. I backed up afraid.
"Well, I guess it's time to take care of you now. Nathan tie her up to that chair." he said.
He reached for me, but I kicked him again. Tom got tired of me fighting back so he stabbed a knife into my leg. I fell to the ground screaming.
The knife was deep. Tears fell down my eyes as Tom lifted me up and tied my arms behind the back of the chair. Then he tied my legs to the chair too so I couldn't fight back. He covered my mouth to stop the screaming.
My leg hurt, but it would be over soon. I'd broken my deal with Kevin. With that I was thrown to the bottom of the lake.
Chapter Ten Hurry Up and Save Me:
I didn't know what to expect as I hit the bottom. I expected death to come quickly. When I was younger I used to play who can hold their breath the longest. I guessed this would be the same thing. Drowning was alot better than what other things Tom could do to me.
I closed my eyes as I started to need to breathe. I felt movement on my hands I guessed it was a fish.
As I tried to breathe I saw Kevin. This was a good face to see before I died. Then my eyes closed as I remembered Kevin's touch and then I died. That was it. Not nearly as bad as I'd expected. I even felt a little relief that it was all over.
I woke up in a bright room. This was heaven? Not anything like I read about.
I felt pain in my leg as I adjusted myself. This couldn't be heaven I still hurt all over.
"You almost broke our deal Charlene Miller. If you ever do that again, I'll kill you myself." I heard a voice next to me.
I looked over and saw Kevin kneeling by the bed. He had a small smile on his face.
"K-Kevin." I whispered.
He smiled. "No."
"Kevin how, why am I not dead?" I asked in shock.
"You owe me one." he murmured kissing my cheek.
"You jumped in after me? Why did you follow me?" I asked.
"I wasn't going to let you fall in their trap. You're lucky that they ran away when they saw me with a knife. If I hadn't of-I don't know what would have happened." he said looking at my leg. "Your leg's infected. The doctors are doing everything they can for it. It seems to be working, but we won't be sure for a few days."
I adjusted my leg which made it hurt. "Kevin I'm sorry for not believing you. I'll take care of both of them. On my own. They're going to pay."
"No you are not Charlene." Kevin said in shock.
"Kevin they're not going to stop. I have to take care of them. They're just going to keep coming at us." I said.
"Well they've failed so far. We'll just keep doing what we're doing. It seems to be working." he said.
"Kevin, they'll get what they want eventually. You have to understand that. You don't know what this means to me. After all that they've done to me, I want to be the one to kill them." I said.
"Charlene you can't. I need to tell you something." he said.
"What is it? Did the police catch them? If they did I'll kill them there." I glared.
"Charlene you're pregnant with Nathan's baby." Kevin whispered.
"I-I'm what?" I said shaking.
"Shhh. I didn't want to tell you, but you're going to find out eventually." he said.
"Get it out of me. Get it out of me now." I screamed.
"Charlene please calm down. Let yourself think about this do you really want to kill it? It's an actual living thing." Kevin whispered stroking my hair.
"I want it out! Take it out!" I screamed even louder.
Nurses came running in.
"I don't know what's wrong with her." Kevin said taking his arm away from me as I started waving my arms everywhere.
"We need to sedate her so she doesn't hurt her leg anymore than it is." a nurse said grabbing a needle.
"Keep that thing away from me. Get this monster out of me now." I screamed kicking my legs.
The nurse inserted the needle in my arm. Then I got weaker and weaker.
Then I fell unconcious.
I woke up to voices talking.
"Mom she'll be fine. I think she just snapped. I mean think about all that she's been through. She kept it in for a long time." I heard Kevin say.
"Kevin, she almost hurt you. She's insane." Mama Jonas said.
"Mom think about being in her situation. She's lost so much. Now she gets all this dropped on her. I'd snap too." Kevin defended.
"Kevin I'm not going to make your descions, but that girl is no longer welcome in our house. If you make me go to the extent of a restraining order I will. I just can't put the rest of us in danger like that." she said.
"Mom, please." Kevin said.
"Bye Kevin." she said stalking out of the room.
I heard something hit the floor. I struggled to look up and see.
Kevin looked at me suddenly. "I-I'm sorry. Did you just hear that?"
I nodded. "I'm so sorry Kevin."
"Dont' be. She's just worried about her families safety. Are you feeling any better?" he asked.
"Yeah I'm sorry about that Kevin. I-I don't know what happened. I just snapped. What damage did I do?" I asked.
"You bit my arm. Then you just about broke your leg." he said showing me the bite mark.
"I'm so sorry." I said looking down.
"Don't worry Charlie. Now do you still want that baby out of you? We can make it happen if needed." he said.
"No I think it'd be good, to keep it. I mean I can't bring myself to do it. This whole thing has nothing to do with the baby. I'm not going to kill it for some grudge I have." I said.
"Now that's the Charlie I know." he said kissing my forehead.
Tears spilled out of my eyes. "I don't deserve for you to still be here Kevin."
"Charlene, I want to still be here. I wouldn't leave if you wanted me to go. I love you too much." he smiled holding my hands.
"Kevin I'm insane. I'm a danger to you and your family. How are you still here?" I mumbled.
"You're not insane. You've just been holding that in for too many years." he said.
"Kevin, what if it happens again? I could really hurt you." I said.
"Charlene, just please focus on getting better. All this stress isn't going to make things any better. It's only going to make things worse. Just relax. Please for me princess." he said kissing my lips.
The tears were wiped by him as I was lost in the trance of his kissing. All the problems were gone as his lips shaped around mine.
I wrapped my fingers in his hair not wanting the problems back. He started to pull away, but I pulled him back and kissed him softly.
He stood up. "You're dad wants to see you."
I sighed and looked over and saw my dad. He was awkwardly standing at the door.
"I'll go Mr. Miller. I'll see you later Charlie. Love you." he said kissing me once more than exiting the room.
"I'm never going to be able to thank that boy enough for what he does for you. He's such a nice boy. You deserve that." he said pulling a chair up next to the bed.
"After what I did to him. I really don't think that I do." I sighed.
"Charlene. I can't help taking some of the blame for that. Maybe if I hadn't of left things might have been different, but I left. No matter how much you tell me it's okay, I'll never forgive myself for doing all this to you." he whispered.
"Dad..." I said reaching for him.
"Charlene if I stayed we could still be a happy family. None of this would have ever happend. I was so ignorant." he sighed.
"Dad, I was put that for some reason. I think that reason is to kill them. So they don't hurt anyone else." I said.
"You think that you're purpose is to kill them? Charlene I think you're purpose is to be with Kevin. I know you don't see it, but Kevin needs you just as much as you need him. You two love eachother more than I can even comprehend. Now I need you to stop putting yourself in danger. For him. It would kill him if you ever died." he said.
"I know, but Tom, Amanda, Nathan, all of them need to die. I hate them so much." I said angrily.
"You make your own choices, but just don't hurt that boy or yourself. Please." he said leaving the room.
Chapter Eleven I love you so much:
When my dad left Kevin came in and sat in the chair that my dad had been sitting in. "Kevin I love you." I said instantly.
"I love you too." he said intertwining our hands.
"They all hate me again?" I asked.
"Yep." he said.
"I guess we're back at square one." I sighed.
He smiled a little bit. "Yeah. Nick's the only one that is on our side, but my mom won't let him come here."
"I can't believe I put all your family through this Kevin. I'm so sorry." I mumbled.
"Charlene don't sweat too much about it. Mind if I crawl up here with you?" he asked.
I nodded as he lifted me up very carefully and layed me on top of him careful not to mess with my leg.
"I wish I would have listened to you before. About Nathan. If I had we wouldn't be here right now." I sighed.
"Shh. It's okay sweetie. I love you and that's all that matters right now. Get better, then we'll figure things out together. Not you on your own, but together. We're a team Charlie." he whispered.
"A team." I repeated with a smile.
He kissed my neck softly. "Charlene did you know that you're beautiful?"
I smiled. "You are too Kevin."
He laughed quietly. "I'm serious Charlene."
I smiled. "Thank you Kevin."
Suddenly Nick walked in the room. "Mom told me to tell you, this is your last chance to go with us."
"Nick tell her I'm perfectly happy exactly where I am." he growled.
"Love ya bro. See ya around Charlene." Nick said as his mom dragged him out.
I sighed and hugged Kevin's arm.
He rubbed my arm. "Don't worry about her Charlene. Please."
I didn't say anything. "Kevin you should go with her. You're losing her permanetly this time."
"That's not going to happen." he glared.
"Kevin listen to me. We can still be together in secret, but this way you won't lose your mom. I can stay here in Utah with my dad. I'll get a phone, so we can still keep in contact. Deal?" I said.
He sighed. "No matter how much I don't like it, it makes sense."
"We'll see eachother soon. Just try and straighten things out with your mom first." I said.
He sighed and kissed me. "Your dad has my number, I'll see you as soon as possible."
I kissed his cheek. "Bye Kevin. I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too. Love you." he said standing up.
"Love you too Kevin." I said.
With that he left.
"Keep my heart." I said to him.
He poked his head back in. "You do the same."
I smiled as he left. I'd see him again soon. Then hopefully things would be better.
The next few days doctors constantly came in checking the condition of my leg. When it finally seemed good, they let me leave. My dad gave me the other room instead of sharing one with Savannah again. He set up a phone jack in my room so that I could talk to Kevin.
As I was unpacking my clothes into the dresser my dad came in the room. "You gonna call Kevin?" he asked sitting on the bed.
"In a few minutes why?" I asked sitting next to him.
"Can I talk to you for a few minutes?" he asked.
I nodded. "Yeah."
"So I talked to an old friend of mine. He said if you passed the GED you could possibly get into the college he works at." my dad said.
"Really?" I asked shocked.
"Yeah he's a proffesser. He has some hook ups so he was thinking that he could help you get in." he smiled. "Are you up for it?"
"Duh! Oh my gosh when can I take the GED?" I asked.
"We'll go in Monday and find out." he said as the phone rang.
I looked at him. "Go ahead. Dinner will be in an hour though."
I nodded and ran to the phone to pick it up.
"Hello?" I said as my dad left.
"Hey baby. You liking being out of the hospital?" he asked.
"Yep! I have my own room. Where's everyone else?" I asked.
"I'm actually at a diner right now. So I don't have much time. Probably like an hour." he said.
I laughed. "That's all I have too. My dad said dinner will be done in an hour. Guess what Kevin?"
"Hm." He said.
"My dad's friend might be able to get me into a college! Then maybe I can still be a marine bioligist." I smiled.
"For real? Charlene that's amazing. What about the baby?" he asked.
"I won't start for a while. I want to raise this baby for a year or two, then I'll go to college." I said.
"I'll help you too." Kevin said.
"Kevin you don't have to. It's not your responsibility at all!" I said.
"I want to. I have no problem with it." he said. I wished I could see his face and know he was for real.
"You're really willing to help me raise a baby that's not even yours?" I asked.
"Yes Charlie. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love you." he said
"Aw. I love you too Kevin. Has your mom figured out why you really came back?" I asked.
"All they know is that we got in a fight. I'm trying to tell her gently. I hope you don't mind." he murmured.
"Do whatever you can. I miss you though. I hope you know that." I sighed.
"I do. I miss you like crazy too. I wish I could be there holding your hand." he said.
"I wish you were too Kevin. It's been 2 weeks already. That's too much." I sighed.
He laughed. "I know. It's crazy, but it is too much. I miss you. Baby. So much."
"I miss you too Kevin." I said.
He laughed again. "I'll be there as soon as I can. Baby girl."
I smiled. "I hope so. Or else I might have to come kidnap you."
"That wouldn't be much of a punishment." I heard him laugh.
I rolled my eyes. "So how has your day been going?"
"Eh. Pretty dull till now." he said.
"Cuz I'm just so exciting." I smiled.
"You are very entertaining. You always make me laugh." he said.
"That's an accomplishment." I smiled.
"Crap. Joe just texted me saying I need to get home like now. Sorry baby. I'll call you later tonight." he said.
"Bye Kevin. Love you." I smiled.
"Bye. Love you too!" he said hanging up.
Savannah came in the room. "Was that Joe?"
I laughed. "No that was Kevin."
"Well when you talk to Joe again, tell him I'm ready to get married." she said leaving.
I laughed again and followed her downstairs.
My dad was sitting on the couch watching the news. I sat next to him.
"Did Kevin have to go?" he asked.
I nodded. "Joe wanted him home."
"That's weird. Joe just tried to call me." he said.
"Did you answer?" I asked.
"No I guessed it was Kevin going to call you back. Maybe you should call him." he said handing me his cell phone.
I went to Joe's name and called him.
"Hello?" I heard a voice that wasn't Joe's say.
"Um, is Joe available?" I asked.
"He's a little tied up at the moment." the man laughed.
"Tell him it's important." I said.
"Sorry no can do. We're about to go pick up his brother. Have a nice day." the man said hanging up.
I stared at the phone shocked.
"What's wrong?" my dad asked.
Then it hit me. They had them all. They were trying to get revenge on us.
I grabbed my bag my leg hurting from the strain. "Dad set up a flight to Texas. Now." I said
"What why?" he asked.
"Trust me. Just do it." I said grabbing some money.
He nodded and grabbed his keys. "I hope you're not doing something stupid."
"It's stupid, but for a good reason." I said getting in the passenger seat.
My dad shook his head. "I'm not letting you do this again. The police can take care of it."
"Push on the gas before I do it myself Dad." I glared.
He sighed and punched the gas. We sped to the airport and I got on the first flight to Texas.
I was on a desperate time limit. Tom could have already tooken care of them.
I arrived in Texas 3 hours later and rented a car. I went to the nearest phone. I tried Kevin's number. No answer.
Tears filled my eyes. Was I too late?
No. I wouldn't be too late. I couldn't be too late. I wiped away the tears and rushed to the Jonas house. I'd never actually been there, but Kevin told me where it was basically.
I ran into the empty house. No one was around. I ran through all the rooms looking for any sort of clue. I went into a big master bedroom. I heard moving around in the closet and quiet sobs.
I opened the closet and saw Mrs. Jonas crying. She stared up at me.
"I-I'm so sorry." I said.
"Sorry doesn't cut it. They took them all. I was lucky to get away." she said crying harder.
"Mrs. Jonas where did they go? I'll go find them!" I said.
"We don't need your help. Stay away from me." she said.
"Mrs. Jonas please. I really can help. Just tell me where they are." I said.
"The men said something about taking them to some abandoned house, so no one would hear their screams." she cried again.
"Do you know of any abandoned houses here in Texas?" I asked.
"The only one I can think of is about 15 miles from here." she sobbed.
"I'll save them Mrs. Jonas." I said.
She gave up. "Thank you. Please just save my family."
I nodded as I ran out to the car. My leg was killing me. I felt like I'd pulled something in it, but I didn't care. I had to save them.
I hit the gas as hard as I could and sped through the streets. Getting directions at a gas station. I pulled up and saw one lone car. They were here.
I slammed the door and grabbed a knife I'd picked up from the Jonas house.
With a shaky hand I ran into the house.
I saw no one. "Come out here and be a man." I screamed challenging them.
Someone caught me from behind and I stabbed the knife into their leg as they fell to the ground dead.
It was a man I'd seen at Tom's house often. I spit in his face and looked around the house cautiously. Tom would not only leave one man to watch the prisoners. I heard muffled voices from above. They were in the attic. I quietly climbed up a stair and listened.
"You guys got involved with the wrong girl, but you've all made your choice, so bring the little boy forward." I heard Tom say.
Tears fled to my eyes as I ran up the stairs.
"Don't lay a finger on him Tom. This is between you and I." I screamed.
There was suddenly 4 guys holding my arms.
"Let me go." I yelled kicking and biting who I could.
"Well we were going to go get you later, but I guess you want to see them die before your eyes." Tom laughed.
"They won't die." I said flipping out of the guys arms and stabbing two with the knife. One I realized with a little pride was Nathen. They both fell to the ground and the other two backed away.
"What are you waiting for! Get her." Tom yelled.
I lifted the knife threateningly.
"Tom she'll kill us." one said.
"Stop being cowards. I'll take care of her." Tom said pointing a gun at me.
I hit it out of his hands for him being cocky. "Not so tough now huh."
Tom backed away. For the first time I saw fear in his eyes.
I smiled a little. "Now whos on top?"
Tom prepared for me to stick the knife into him. I smiled and entered it deep into his stomach. "I didn't want to have to hurt you, but you deserved it." I said repeating his most famous line.
The other two men ran away. I kneeled down next to the others untying them. There was one missing. Kevin.
My heart stopped. "Where is Kevin?" I asked.
"Tom-Tom threw him out the window. I realized a window was broken and I ran downstairs.
I saw Kevin laying in a bush pieces of glass all around. I started crying and gently got him up. He was still breathing. That had to be good right?
Papa Jonas was at my side and helped me carry Kevin to the car.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" I asked sitting Kevin's head on my lap.
"I honestly don't know. We can pray." Nick said starting to pick pieces of glass out of Kevin.
Tears flooded to my eyes. "Kevin you don't die. Remember our deal? You can't break it Kevin please." I said burying my face in his hair.
