Chapter Twelve How To Save A Life:
We got to the hospital in record time. Doctors took Kevin on a stretcher warning us that it would probably be bloody, but we all went anyway. Except for Frankie and Nick, they stayed in the lobby.
I sat in a chair across the room from Kevin. Doctors were over him pulling out the rest of the glass.
"He's broken his neck." one said.
I couldn't be in here. This was all my fault. I quickly left the room and went outside.
I curled my knees to my chest and looked at nothing. Just stayed in my own tense little bubble.
Someone sat next to me about an hour later. I looked over and saw Joe.
"They said Kevin's going to be fine." he murmured.
"Thank god." I said in relief.
"But he's going to be in a wheelchair for a month or two. He broke one of his arms, and a leg. He also broke his neck." Joe said.
That made my heart drop. "Well at least he's alive." I assured myself.
"He was awake and asking for you." Joe said.
I shook my head. "I can't go back in there. This was all my fault in the first place."
"Charlene he wants to see you. Even after all this happened. Go inside and go see him." Joe said.
I sighed and got up. Joe led me to a new hospital room.
I looked at Kevin laying weakly on the bed facing straight up because of a neck brace.
"Is that Charlene?" he asked.
"Yes." Joe said.
I went and stood above the bed so Kevin could see me.
He smiled. "I heard you killed people?"
I didn't smile and tears flooded to my eyes as I looked at his condition.
"Don't cry please. I'll be fine. Come here." he said patting his chest with his free arm wincing in a little pain.
I shook my head as more tears came out. "Kevin. I'm so sorry."
"Charlie. It's not your fault, now come here. I want to feel you the best that I can." he murmured.
I weakly pulled a chair over and buried my face in his chest careful not to hurt him.
He stroked my hair softly singing the song he'd written about me.
I smiled a tiny bit and moved my face so I was looking at him.
"I'll be fine Charlie. Promise." he said trying to bend down and kiss me, but he couldn't move.
I laughed and kissed him softly.
He winced in pain as I realized I was leaning on his arm. "Oh my gosh sorry." I said pulling away quickly and climbing off him.
"Get back over here. I didn't tell you to stop now did I?" he smiled.
I smiled a tiny bit. "I think I'll pass."
He reached over and grabbed me bringing my face to his. I kissed him.
He kissed me urgently. I returned his urgency.
Then he pulled away. "I-I'm sorry." he said.
"For what?" I asked.
"Kissing you like that. I just missed you so much." he said.
I kissed him passionetely. "I didn't mind." I smiled pulling away.
He smiled as nurses came bustling in.
"Are you okay Kevin? Your heartbeat was out of control." one said.
Kevin laughed softly making him wince. "I'm fine. I was just kissing my girlfriend."
I blushed deep red as the nurses laughed.
"Well tone it down a little bit. Don't want you to have a heart attack." one laughed.
I looked down as they left.
"You see what you just did to me?" he teased.
I rolled my eyes as the blush faded and I kissed his hand.
He intertwined my hand with his. "I can't belive I'm still alive." he admitted.
I stared at him waiting.
"I expected to die. I mean I fell out a window, but then I remembered our deal and kept myself breathing." he said.
I felt a tear escape my eyes.
He caught it with his finger. "No crying please. You don't know how much I hate seeing you cry Charlie." he murmured.
I shook my head and looked down.
"Charlene. Shh. Please. Your going to upset me too." he said.
I stopped and wiped away the tears.
"There. Now smile for me please." he smiled.
I smiled softly and kissed him once more.
"Go eat something. You probably haven't eaten in a while." he guessed.
I nodded. "I'll be back."
He smiled as I left.
I saw Mrs. Jonas and Nick at a table in the cafeteria.
Mrs. Jonas smiled at me a little bit and patted the chair next to her.
I sat next to her.
"So Nick was telling me about what you did." Mrs. Jonas said.
I closed my eyes hoping she wouldn't think I was insane.
"Thank you." she murmured kissing my forehead. "You saved my family. I've been acting very rudely to you. I guess I'm just not ready to lose my Kevin."
"I'm sure you wouldn't. Kevin's a very nice man. I really love him." I said.
She smiled. "I can tell. I trust you with him."
I smiled gently. "Thank you Mrs. Jonas."
"Are you hungry? I'll buy you something." she said standing up.
"Thank you." I said as she got up to go buy me something.
Nick took her place. "Thanks for avenging Alexis's murder. It means everything to me."
I hugged him. "No problem. I wish I could've saved her."
"Don't blame yourself sweeheart." Nick said into my hair.
Suddenly there were five nurses running. A few minutes later Joe came running in. "Guys Kevin just got worse."
I dropped the food that I had in my hand and ran to Kevin's room.
There were 3 nurses standing over him.
"What happened?" I asked in fear.
"He won't wake up. His heartrate dropped too." one nurse said.
"Is he dying?" I asked trying to see him through more nurses entering the room.
"Someone please take her out. She doesn't need to see this." a nurse said.
Someone grabbed my arms and took me out of the room.
I relucantly left with tears in my eyes. "Why is this happening to him?" I cried.
Mrs. Jonas held me to her in the lobby. I gripped the leg of my pants.
This couldn't be happening. Was Kevin going to die? I saw the doctor come in.
I heard Nick and Joe talking. I saw Frankie crying in the corner. What had happened?
Mrs. Jonas cried into my shoulder.
"Wh-what happened?" I asked.
"He's in a coma. They don't know how it happened, they think it might have something to do with stress." Joe murmured.
"Wh-when will he wake up?" I asked.
"The doctors don't know." Nick said.
"Can we go see him?" I asked.
Mrs. Jonas shook her head. "We've had enough stress for the day. Let's go home and rest."
"I'll stay here in case he wakes up." I said.
"No, Charlene you should go too." Mrs. Jonas said.
"I need to stay here Mrs. Jonas." I said.
She sighed. "Joe let her borrow your phone. Give us a call if you need anything."
I nodded. "See you guys later."
They all left.
I walked to the nurse station.
"May I go in and see him?" I asked the nurses.
They nodded. "He might be able to hear you, but he can't respond. He also may talk. That's been known."
I sighed and relucantly went in the room. I sat in the chair available next to the bed.
I was silent. Suddenly he flipped toward me and I saw in his face pain.
My heart stopped and tears started to fall. This was all my fault. I softly kneeled next to his face and stroked his cheek. The look of pain wouldn't go away. I buried my face in the side of the bed.
I caused all this. Alexis's death. Kevin being in the hospital. All the tears. All my fault. I looked at Kevin's face and I saw a tear escaping his eye softly.
Then he softly murmured. "I'm scared."
That sent me over the edge. I had to leave. Leave before I caused his family any more tears, no more fear. Amanda was still out there somewhere. She was just as bad as Tom. We'd never be completely out of danger. I could take them from the danger though.
With tears in my eyes I softly kissed Kevin's hand before I changed my mind.
"I love you Kevin. I hope you understand why I'm leaving. I can't hurt you or anyone anymore." I whispered standing up.
With one last look at the sleeping figure of Kevin I left my broken heart and everything else behind. I wasn't sure where I was going, but it'd be a better place for Kevin and his family.
Chapter 13 Where Do I Turn To?:
About 6 months later I was living on a small island outside the Caribbean. My heart still ached for Kevin every day. I read in the paper that Kevin had come out of his coma about 3 weeks later that I'd left.
My dad had filed a missing child report. It was January 27th now. My 18th birthday. Which meant they would give up all hope on finding me now. Kevin, Joe, and Nick stayed out of the press. I assumed Kevin was more than a little shocked and most of all hurt.
I didn't want to think about that though. It hurt me.
No one knew me here. I worked on a local farm, where I also lived.
I gently got out of bed and went to the main house to find out my job for the day. I saw the little girl who lived there talking to her mom in the local tounge. She was crying holding a picture to her chest. Her mom shooed her away and smiled at me.
"Sorry my daughter's favirote band is in some trouble right now." she laughed softly.
"It's fine. May I ask what band it is?" I asked politely.
"You know the Jonas Brothers?" she asked.
Their name made my heart stop. "Yeah. I do."
"Well, they're supposedly being held hostage by this insane woman." she said.
I bit my lip trying to hold back tears. "How long has this been going on?" I managed.
"About a week. They're supposedly somewhere in the Rocky Mountains in the U.S, but they can't find them. Helicopters have been going out all night. They gave up this morning." she sighed.
I fell to the ground and buried my face in my hands. No. No. No. The only reason I was here was to stop this from happening. No.
"Miss are you alright?" the wife asked.
I shook in fear. "Yes. Miss. I need a few days off. I'm so sorry. I have a family emergency."
"Oh alright. Here take this." she said handing me a cloth. "It was my mothers. It brings good luck."
"How'd you know?" I asked.
"I'm not blind to the news. You were Kevin Jonas's girlfriend. I have a feeling you're still very connected with him. " she said with a little smile.
I nodded. "Thank you. So much."
She smiled. "Good luck."
I tied the cloth around my head like a headband then ran out the door to catch the next flight to Colorado.
I arrived in Colorado in record time. My dad was sitting on the porch when I ran up to the porch. He stared at me in relief then he was angry.
"Where the heck have you been?" he fumed.
"Don't worry about it Dad. I have more important matters at hand. I need to borrow your camping stuff." I said.
"Charlene you can't save them. No one can find them." he said in awe.
"Then they won't find me either. This is my fault and it's time I fix things. I should have never went out with Kevin that day. Now look at them. Just please dad." I said.
He sighed. "Well you're 18 I can't really control you. Go ahead and take it and please be careful."
"Thank you dad. I'll make it home." I said.
"Don't make promises you might not be able to keep." he said.
I nodded and ran inside. I packed enough stuff for three days in a hiking backpack.
"Why don't you stay for the night?" my dad asked.
"I'm sory dad I can't. I need to find them. I could be wasting valuable time. I love you." I said running out the door.
He threw me his keys and I drove to part of the Rocky Mountains.
I threw on the backpack and started up the mountain.
"Excuse me miss what are you doing hiking alone in the middle of winter?" a man asked me as I walked along a path.
"I'm trying to find my friends." I said simply walking quicker.
I walked for about 3 hours when I got to a small forest. I decided to look around in there. As I went inside I was surprised to find a small boys shirt. Frankie's? I saw blood splattered on it. No it couldn't be.
I went deeper into the forest and looked around every tree and found nothing. I realized that it was beginning to get dark. I could rest here for the night, then be up and early tomorrow morning. I softly layed a sleeping bag down and layed down.
Suddenly there was movement in the bushes. Had I disturbed an animal? I gently started to stand up careful not to look defensive.
"Charlene." someone moaned in pain. I saw Joe and Frankie fall out of the bushes in front of me. Joe had a deep cut on his forehead and Frankie was laying limply in his arms.
I stared at them in shock. "Help us." Frankie said through stiff lips.
"Wh-what happened? Wait let me help first. Joe do you think you can handle taking care of wounds. I need to set up the tent." I said.
Joe nodded weakly and started to put alchohol on his forehead.
I set up the tent quickly and ushered them all in putting a small space heater inside.
They both sat around it as they're shivering slowed.
"Charlene, they know that you're coming. That's their plan." Joe said looking at me in fear.
"Don't worry. I'll find away around it. Where is everyone else?" I asked.
"I-I don't know. Me and Frank barely got away. No one's died yet. Though no one has seen Kevin. Amanda took him somewhere different. She said she had something special planned for him." he sighed.
Frankie curled up under the spare blanket and fell asleep.
"How far is where the others are from here?" I whispered.
"About 2 miles from here. Let's go now. I don't know how long they have." he murmured.
"Will Frankie be okay?" I asked.
Joe bit his lip.
"Stay here. I got this handled. Hand me a knife from the bag please." I said.
He handed me one. "Be careful."
"I will. How many guys are there?" I asked.
"2. Just please hurry. I can't lose them." Joe said.
I nodded. "I promise I'll get them." I promised.
He nodded. "Just go straight and you'll find a cabin."
I nodded and ran off into the night.
I ran for about two miles and I saw the cabin. There were lights on upstairs. I softly climbed up the gutter pipe.
I peeked into the window and saw Nick, Papa Jonas, and Mama Jonas. They were all being guarded my two tough looking men. They were sitting in chairs.
I jumped down hitting the ground with a quiet thud. I gently opened the front door careful not to make any noise. I looked around and saw no one. I gently climbed the stairs. I found the room and heard the two men laughing. "How much longer do you think Amanda's gonna put Kevin through that torture?" one said.
My fists clenched.
The other one laughed too. "I don't know. I hope I get shot at that little girlfriend of his."
"You better share with me." the first man said.
The man roared and said. "I'm gonna go use the bathroom. Think you can handle these three?"
The other man nodded and the first man walked by me in the darkness. I followed him into the bathroom and took care of him quickly. It was noiseless. The other mann would be here soon to figure out what happened. I waited behind the door.
I heard him get up about 10 minutes later. He walked in and saw the other man and shouted in fear. I came up behind him and stabbed him. "How's that for a shot?" I said spitting in both of their faces.
I quickly went to the other room. Papa Jonas and Mama Jonas stared at me. Nick was hurt pretty badly. I helped them all get untied and we ran out of the house. Papa Jonas had carry most of Nick's weight.
We got back to the tent and everyone reunited.
I interupted them. "Where's Kevin?"
"The men said not too far from the other cabin." Mama Jonas said.
"Wait Charlene after this are you going to leave again?" Nick said from Papa J's arm.
"I don't know." I admitted.
They all nodded as I slipped the knife into my pocket and ran back into the forest searching for Kevin.
Where would Amanda keep Kevin? I knew her to be a sort of outdoors woman, so he wouldn't be in a cabin. They could be absoulutely anywhere. I walked for about and hour and it began to snow. I ran under a bush to get out of it to think.
He couldn't be much further could he?
I heard quiet voices mumbling. I followed them and hid behind a tree. I saw Kevin. He was up in a brach hanging in a cage. I shook in anger, but payed attention to what the voices were saying.
There were at least 5 people. That was already a problem.
I listened. "I guess Charlene isn't going to come save her boyfriend. I'm thinking we should just take care of him." one person said.
"Not yet." Amanda said. "I sense she's already here. Look around the forest for her. Bring her back alive."
I softly climbed up the tree careful not to make any noise. I got up to the third branch and watched them.
3 men left. The other two searched around. Amanda began talking to Kevin.
"It looks like your one love isn't coming is she?" Amanda asked friendly.
Kevin whispered. "I don't want her to come. She's just going to get hurt."
"Such a pity you want to spare her life over your own. If she shows up I'll set you free." Amanda laughed.
She knew I was listening.
"I wouldn't leave without her." Kevin glared.
"Such a shame." she sighed.
She was about to pull a string that would send Kevin falling to the ground.
"Hey! Stop!" I said jumping out of the tree.
She let go of the rope and smiled at me. "Nice of you to join us."
Two men grabbed me around the arms. The knife falling out of my pocket.
Suddenly Nick and everyone else was there too.
"No. No. No." I said trying to fight out of the guys arms.
Amanda laughed. "Put them up there with Kevin. We'll leave them here to starve. Just in case Adam you stay here to watch."
The men put us all in the cage with Kevin. Kevin held me to him kissing my neck softly. I felt tears soaking my shirt.
The cage was locked and Amanda left with 4 of the men.
Everyone was hugging eachother. I shook my head and pulled away from Kevin staring out of the cage.
This was it? After everything I'd been through this is how it ended? I wouldn't let it end this way. I'd get them out.
I clenched my hand around the bars of the cage.
A hand wrapped around mine. "Charlene. Why'd you leave?"
"Kevin don't worry about it. It's over for me. " I said not looking at him.
"Don't you even say that." Kevin whispered.
"Kevin there is no way out for me at least." I said leaning my head against the bars.
Suddenly Kevin stroked my stomach. "You're seriously going to take yourself and that baby out of my life?"
I closed my eyes remembering the baby. The actual baby that was in my stomach due in a matter of months.
"I'll get us all out of here. I promise." I whispered.
Kevin kissed me suddenly holding the side of my face. "I know you can do this."
I nodded and stood up. I had no fear in me as I kicked open the gate and jumped down in front of the man.
He stared at me shocked, but then pulled out a knife.
I hit it out of his hand fearlessly cutting my hand a little bit.
He stared in fear as I picked up the knife and stabbed him in the belly.
He fell to the ground with a scream, which would send Amanda and the others running.
4 men came running.
I dodged several punches before I punched one hard in the groin sending him the ground. The others came running. I stabbed one, but the other knocked the knife out of my hand.
Suddenly there was 5 people beside me punching and hitting who they could.
I smiled as we finished them all off.
"Let's get out of here." Joe said.
"Wait I have one last thing to take care of. Go back to my dad's place." I said picking up the knife.
"Charlene no." Kevin said grabbing my wrist.
"Kevin it will all be over as soon as she's dead. There won't be anyone else." I promised.
"Charlene, she's going to kill you." Kevin said.
"That's what you've said, but surprisingly I'm still alive Kevin. I can do this." I said.
He sighed. "I'll be waiting for you on the trail."
I kissed him softly and then ran into the darkness searching for Amanda.
Chapter 14 Come Out and Be A Man:
I walked through the forest being sure to make as much noise as possible.
About 10 minutes later they stayed hidden. I started yelling. “Come out here and fight.”
There was still silence. I sighed angrily and leaned against a nearby tree. Her games were driving me insane. Why won't she just come out here and finish me if that's was her goal. Maybe this was her killing me. Driving me to play her games. I angrily punched the tree.
I suddenly heard movement behind me. I tensed for a fight. Then the
movement stopped for a few minutes.
“Amanda this needs to end now. If you're going to kill me just do it. I don't want to play these games anymore.” I screamed.
The movement started again, but then a voice quieted it. “Not yet.” it said.
“Who do you have with you? I'll kill you both.” I said.
There was no answer. I pushed off the tree and went behind it looking for the causes of the noises.
“Now!” Amanda said as someone punched me in the stomach.
I fell to the ground in pain and one thought I rarely thought about came to my mind. The baby. The attacker had hit me hard enough to kill the baby. Tears fell down my eyes as I said my possible last goodbyes to the little baby. Maybe even to the world.
“What do we do with her?” I heard the voice ask.
I vaguely saw the outline and I thought I recognized the face, but I wasn't sure.
“Drown her. Take care of her quickly. The others are going to be here to pick us up soon.” Amanda said.
I felt the man grab my arms. “Let me go.” I screamed.
He covered my mouth. “Shut up. No one is going to hear you.”
“I don't care, just let me go please!” I screamed again.
“I'm starting to think that running away in the first place wasn't such a good idea don't you think?” the person laughed.
The laugh I recognized instantly. “T-Tom?” I said in shock.
“You're not strong enough to kill me little girl.” he said kicking me in the back.
I felt tears stream down my eyes. This was the end. Not like the other ends, but the real end.
No one was here to save me this time. I wasn't strong enough to save myself. I just desperately hoped that they wouldn't go back to kill my new family.
They had come to be my whole life, in just a few months. We'd been through so much, I wanted someone to be there to retell the story. Be able to remember all that had happened in my life.
As I was thrown into the water I remembered how lucky I was. I mean look at all that had happened to me. I'd met my 3 dream guys. One of them actually had the insanity to fall in love with me. Of all people.
I wasn't about to let that all go. I pushed past the agony and pain and struggled to the surface.
I already had a plan in mind. Hide from them long enough to be able to sneak past.
I weakly went behind a tree and sat against it. I felt someone grab my hand. I tensed had they already found me?
“Sh. It's just me.” Kevin whispered.
“What the hell are you doing Kevin?” I whispered.
“Helping you. Now sh. I'm not taking no for an answer this time.” he whispered covering my mouth.
We waited about 15 minutes then stood up.
“Are they gone?” I asked still cautious.
“Yes. Grab my hand Charlene. We'll take care of them together.” he said gripping my hand.
I gripped his hand back as we ran. “Kevin I'm going to go kill them.”
“I know we are. We are going to go kill them. Not just you. We.” he said kissing my hand.
I smiled as we continued running. We caught up with them. There was a whole car full of people driving away.
“Kevin what do we do? They're getting away.” I said.
“There not getting away that easily.” he glared. “Come on.”
He ran with me and he stopped in front of a motorcycle.
“Kevin you can't be serious.” I said.
“Charlene do you have any other ideas?” he asked.
I shook my head as I got on the motorcycle behind him.
“Hang on tight.” he said as he revved the engine and we rode off leaving dust behind us.
I gripped onto his shirt trying desperately to hang on as we sped to keep up with the speeding car.
They turned a corner quickly and I saw Tom poking his head out with a gun in hand.
“Keep your head down.” Kevin yelled.
I buried my face into his back in fear.
He made us go faster. I heard bullets hitting the wheels, but Kevin kept pushing the motorcycle faster.
“Don't you dare let go.” Kevin said as we flipped around.
I felt something wet on my cheek. “Kevin why is your jacket wet?” I asked.
“I just got a little bit hurt, don't worry about that right now Charlene.” Kevin yelled.
Tears streamed down my face.
Suddenly the motorcycle veered off the road and I fell off. I rolled on the asphalt then fell myself stop as I hit a tree.
“Charlene!” Kevin yelled stopping the motorcycle.
“Kevin we got her. Joe go with him to finish them off. Drive them off a cliff. Do whatever it takes.” a voice distantly said.
I felt blood rush into my eyes.
“K-Kevin.” I mumbled.
“Sh. Sandy help me get her into the car. We need to take her to the emergency room right away.” the voice said.
“Where's Kevin?” I yelled.
“Sh. You'll see him soon.” the voice said lifting me into their arms.
I gently closed my eyes and eventually fell asleep.
Chapter 15 Thank You:
I woke up in a hospital bed, which I expected.
I looked around the room for any familiar face. Mostly Kevin's. Then I saw him. He was laying in a bed surrounded by many machines.
I tried to speak, but then realized he was sleeping.
I gently tried to sit up, but a doctor came in. “Hey young lady. You need to stay lying down. You fell off a motorcycle going at least 100 miles an hour. Don't push your luck.”
“Is he okay?” I asked looking at Kevin.
“Yes he'll be fine. Just a bullet shot in the arm. You're injuries are far worse.” he said.
“Just a bullet shot? Is he hurting right now?” I asked.
“Don't worry about him. Your family probably doesn't want you worrying about him too much either. Your injuries are far worse.” he said again.
“Why do you keep saying that?” I asked eying him.
“Charlene, you lost the baby you were carrying. I'm very sorry.” the doctor murmured.
Tears filled my eyes.
“Would you like me to bring in your father?” he asked.
“No, just please take me over to Kevin's bed.” I said trying to control the tears.
The doctor nodded. “If you wish.”
He wheeled me right next to Kevin's bed. He was still asleep.
I let quiet sobs escape. How could this happen? I'd never cared much for the baby, I mean I wanted it out of me when I first found out. It was from a murderer. Why did I care if it died?
I looked at Kevin and realized why. This whole time I'd been pretending the baby was going to be mine and his. That he was the father.
I looked down as more tears escaped. “Charlene?” I heard someone murmur.
I looked up and saw Kevin leaning as far as he could over.
I wiped away the tears quickly and tried to force a smile at him. “Hey.” my voice broke on the y.
“Are you okay? I think that you would be. It's all over now Charlie.” Kevin smiled a bit.
“Kevin the baby's dead.” I cried.
“What?” he asked in shock.
“The baby's dead.” I repeated.
He stared at me. “I'm here for you. Always.”
“I know you are Kevin.” I said.
“There's something you're not telling me.” he said.
“It's silly.” I said looking down.
“I want to know.” he murmured.
“The only reason that it's hurting so much, is that I-I kind of pretended it was your baby.” I said.
He smiled a tiny bit. “Really?”
I blushed. “Yeah. Silly huh?”
“Only if you want it to be. I kind of like that idea.” he said nervously.
I looked at him. “You mean you'd want a baby with me?”
He looked at me. “Eventually.”
I smiled. “Kevin-”
He reached his face toward mine, but couldn't. I gently kissed him.
He smiled. “I really would Charlene.”
I smiled back.
“Hey are you two awake finally?” I heard Nick ask from the doorway.
Kevin laughed and Nick came in quietly. “What were you two talking about?” he asked.
“Nick is that really any of your business?” Kevin laughed.
“It sounded like you were talking about having a baby.” Nick said eying us.
“Maybe we were.” Kevin winked.
“I'm telling Mom.” Nick said jokingly.
Kevin rolled his eyes. “We were just talking about it someday happening. Not right now.”
Nick nodded. “I guess you already found out about the other baby.”
Kevin glared. “Yep.”
Nick bit his lip and left the room.
I looked at Kevin questioningly.
Kevin shook his head. “He doesn't need to bring that up. He knows you know, he just brought it up for no reason.”
“Kevin I think I'm strong enough to handle it.” I promised. “People are going to bring it up always.”
He frowned. “Doesn't it hurt at all?”
“A little bit, but nothing too bad. I actually am handling this pretty well.”
“I know you are and that's what scares me.” he frowned.
“What do you mean?” I asked in surprise.
“You act like huge things are just small little things. That's how you get yourself in so much danger.” he said.
“I look at that more as a talent. I prefer not to think of what is really happening. I want to pretend it's some small thing, when it's actually a huge deal. It helps me deal with it.” I said.
“Well that makes sense.” he allowed. “I just kind of envy you that you can do that. I mean I've tried, but it just doesn't work for me.”
“Takes years of experience.” I sighed.
“You must have been practicing that for a while.” he said.
“Yeah. Since I was 7 years old.” I said.
“Charlene.” Kevin said trying to catch my eye.
“Yeah?” I asked looking at him.
“After we both get out of here, I want to try our deal again. Of you forgetting about Tom and Amanda.” he said.
“What's my gain?” I smiled.
He grinned. “That's a surprise.”
“Kevin I hate surprises.” I groaned.
He laughed softly. “I know you do. That's why I make them.”
I rolled my eyes and softly intertwined his hand that wasn't all wired up with mine.
Chapter 16 the Surprise:
“Kevin where are we going?” I asked for the tenth time as he dragged me around covering my eyes.
“We're almost there.” he promised with a small smile I felt against my shoulder.
I laughed as we continued walking.
“Here you're going to have to ride on my back now. We have to go down a hill.” Kevin said tying something around my face.
He put me on his back quickly. “Actually I have a better idea. Is this a big hill?” I asked.
“Well not really.” he said.
I made him fall down the hill and landed on top of him.
“That was unfair.” he said taking off the blindfold.
I looked at him and saw we were in sand. I looked up and saw a small little house in front of the ocean.
“K-Kevin?” I said shocked.
“This is our new home. There's a bunch of sharks around here and it's not too far from my Aunt's house so she can teach you to scuba dive. There is also this marine biology school not too far from here.” he smiled holding my face in his hands.
I stared shocked. “Kevin is-is this my surprise? I thought we were just in the Bahamas for you, Nick, and Kevin's concert tonight.”
“Yeah, but there's more to It.” he smiled.
I gently kissed him. He pressed me closer to him.
I smiled as I heard Joe shouting.
“Kevin it’s time to go to sound check.” Joe shouted.
Kevin laughed. “He comes at the worst moments.”
“I’ll go change really quick, then we’ll go.” Kevin said. “You want to drive Charlene down there?”
Joe rolled his eyes. “Fine. Just hurry up Kevin.”
Kevin nodded and gently lifted me off him so he could get up. “See you soon Charlie.”
I kissed his cheek as he ran into the house.
I sighed. “What's he up to now?”
“I can't tell you.” Joe laughed. “If I do Kevin said that I wont be able to see for weeks.”
I laughed. “He really said that?”
Joe laughed. “No joke!”
“Wow this must be serious.” I laughed.
“I think it's pretty serious.” he smiled as we got in the limo and drove away.
About an hour later sound check started. Nick and Joe decided it'd be best for me to sit in the audience. I also preferred it this way. It was my first Jonas concert I just wanted to be like a normal fan.
I hadn't seen Kevin since at the beach, so I was beginning to wonder what he was up to.
Suddenly a teenage girl came up to me. “Are you here by yourself?”
“Uh. Yeah.” I said.
“Mind if I hang with you? How long have you been a fan?” she asked.
“Since 2005.” I smiled. “How about you?”
“Me too!” she laughed.
“Wow. That's cool! They've helped me a lot.” I admitted.
“Me too. My dad used to beat me, but the Jonas Brothers helped me a lot. Sorry, I'm Emily. What's your name? You seem really familiar.” she said.
“Charlene.” I said. “I don't think we've met before.”
She thought for a second then her eyes lit up. “You're Kevin's secret girlfriend!” she shouted.
“Sh.” I said.
She smiled. “What's it like being Kevin's girlfriend?” she whispered.
“I'll tell you sometime. Would you like to meet the Jonas Brothers?” I asked quietly.
“Yes. Yes. Please. Oh my gosh!” she said shocked.
I smiled. “I'll take you backstage with me after sound check.”
“Thank you. So much.” she said hugging me.
I laughed as she sat down hyperventilating.
Then I heard the announcer say the Jonas Brothers coming out.
Emily stood up and started screaming.
I laughed as I screamed with her. I saw Kevin trying to keep from bursting out laughing.
I rolled my eyes and continued screaming with Emily.
“Alright so now we're going to call one lucky lady up here to sing to.” Joe smiled.
I motioned to Emily.
Joe smiled. “How about you?” he said calling her up.
I saw her breath caught in her throat as she nervously ran up on stage.
Joe gently grabbed her hand and sat her in a chair.
She had tears in her eyes as Joe and Nick started to sing to her.
Joe was going a little overboard with it flirting a tiny bit.
I shook my head as I saw Kevin smiling at me.
As she got off stage the Jonas Brothers announced that this was the last song.
The song was “BB Good.” I sang along to all the words with a huge smile.
After the song was over Big Rob tapped me on the shoulder. “They need you backstage Joe wants you to bring your friend.”
I nodded. “Come on Emily.”
Big Rob quickly ushered us backstage.
Joe smiled at Emily and grabbed her arm. Kevin smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Looks like Joe has a little crush.” he whispered in my ear.
I laughed. “It's good that he can get over Taylor this way.”
He smiled. “I think he likes that girl a lot more than he liked Taylor.”
I laughed and gently kissed him. “So what's the surprise?”
“You'll see tonight. You're going to be sitting in the soundbooth with my dad.” he said.
I sighed. “I really want to know what you're doing.”
“You'll see I promise.” he kissing me softly.
I sighed. “You know if I didn't love you so much, I would really dislike you.”
He held me to his chest. “Just dislike. Not hate? Wow.”
I rolled my eyes and hugged him.
“Hey boys. It's time for them to go enjoy the show. Would your friend like to sit with you in the soundbooth?” Papa Jonas asked.
“Yeah Emily would like to.” Joe smiled.
Papa Jonas nodded and led us to the sound booth. The opening act was just finishing up. Then girls stood up and started chanting the Jonas Brothers names.
Emily smiled and joined in. I started joining in too as Papa Jonas smiled.
Suddenly I heard the band start playing L.A. Baby.
Everyone started screaming as the Joe, Nick, and Kevin suddenly ran out on stage and started singing.
I started dancing around having fun.
After about 5 songs Kevin's guitar tempo slowed into a familiar song.
“Alright this next song is about a very special girl that's here tonight, and I'd like her to come up on stage if she would please.” Kevin said as my head spun.
Papa Jonas tapped me on the shoulder. “That's you Charlene.”
I nervously approached the stage as several girls stared at me.
Kevin caught my eye and I got confidence as I climbed up onto the stage.
“What are you doing?” I asked quietly.
He laughed as he started singing the song he'd written for me.
“K-kevin?” I asked in shock as Joe took his guitar and Kevin grabbed my hand.
I felt tears star to form as his voice echoed through the stadium.
Suddenly the whole stadium was gone. It was just Kevin and I together.
He kissed me as the song ended and then the stadium was back.
Everyone was smiling up at us and there was a lot of aw's as he pulled away.
“Everyone this is my girlfriend Charlene Miller. I think it's time for you guys to know her. She's had a rough life, please be accepting of her.” Kevin smiled.
Everyone screamed in response.
Kevin kissed me once more as I went back to the sound booth.
Chapter 17 A Happy Ending:
*Two Years Later*
I sat in the giant room with my best friend Emily. Today was going to be the best day of my entire life.
The day I'd marry my dream guy. I was finally going to get my happy ending. Emily and Joe were pretty close to tying the knot themselves.
Nick had met a nice girl and everything was working out perfectly.
Except for my extensive nervousness. What if I didn't know how to be a wife? Or even a mother?
“Is everything okay Charlene?” Emily asked.
I nodded. “I'm just a little nervous.”
“You look beautiful.” she promised.
“It's not that. I'm afraid. I won't be a good mom or wife. What if I completely screw this up?” I feared.
Mama Jonas smiled. “Kevin loves you Charlene. He wouldn't of chose you if he didn't see a good wife and mother.”
I smiled. “I'll just be happy when this is over. Where's my dad?”
“He's on his way up.” Savannah said. “Charlie you look like a princess.”
I laughed as my dad barged through the door. “Sorry I'm late- Whoa.” he stopped mid sentence taking me in.
I smiled shyly.
“You look so beautiful.” he smiled.
I grabbed his hand. “Let's get this over with.”
He smiled as Savannah led us forward.
She entered the wedding and I took a deep breath preparing myself to leave.
My dad grabbed my back as we walked inside.
As the doors opened I saw Kevin standing there staring at me with a giant grin on his face and I saw a few tears come to his eyes as I approached slowly. The world was moving in slow motion as I approached him.
Eventually I got there and he intertwined our hands.
Papa Jonas said all that he was supposed to and I barely heard him. I was staring into Kevin's eyes. I so much just wanted him to hold me in his arms.
Papa Jonas finished the speech and Kevin put a ring on my finger and I put a ring on his in return as he kissed me.
Everyone cheered as we went into the reception.
Kevin wrapped his arms around my waist as we sat at a table.
Everything was moving by so quickly.
I smiled at him not knowing what to say.
He smiled back and his smile said everything. He loved me and that's all that mattered. All my past nervousness faded away as he took me on to the floor for the honarary groom and bride dance.
He held me close to him as we danced. “Are you going to run off again?” he smiled.
I took a deep breath and laughed. “No.”
“Good, because I don't know if I ever want to let go of you.” he said.
“I love you Kevin.” I said kissing him.
“I love you too Charlene.” he said.
I'd finally found my happy ending. I didn't have to dream anymore. As I stood there in Kevin's arm I knew I would never be alone again. I'd never have to worry about anything ever again.
I was finally completely happy.
The End.
The End.
